Incident Overview

On June 15, 2025, the Jericho Mountain Fire was reported burning in heavy dead and down fuel approximately 5 miles south of MacDonald Pass. The Forest Service, Montana DNRC, Baxendale and Elliston Volunteer Fire Departments assisted with initial response.

Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 6, Incident Commander Rich Cowger took command of the Jericho Mountain Fire at 6 am on June 21, 2025.

On July 11 the fire will transition to a Type 5 fire in patrol status. No visible smoke has been detected this week on the fire. The fire is still 100% contained and will continue to be patrolled by local resources.

Additionally, the Helena Ranger District, Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest has rescinded the forest closure order as of July 10 for all roads and trails including the Continental Divide Trail. Check the Forest's Webpage for accurate closure information regarding CDT and closure being removed. Please use caution when traveling near or in burned area due to unstable surfaces and fire weakened trees.

Forest officials are asking the public to be cautious when recreating on the Forest, know before you go, check current weather conditions and fire situations before planning an outing. Also, please remember that it's your job and responsibility to properly maintain and extinguish all campfires. Fireworks are illegal on lands managed by the Forest Service.
