Incident Overview

A two track dirt road winds between black spruce trees with a previous burn scar in the background that is covered in fireweed.

Himalaya Road and Aggie Creek Fires: These two fires, located north of Fairbanks, are being managed together as a group. As of July 30, 2025, the Himalaya Road Fire (#223) is approximately 6,057 acres and 50% contained. The Aggie Creek Fire (#268) is approximately 34,837 acres and 5% contained.

Cooler, wet weather has significantly moderated fire behavior, and crews are now focusing on suppression repair and monitoring the perimeters. Command of the fires transitioned from a Type 2 Incident Management Team to an Ad Hoc Type 3 Incident Management Team on July 27, 2025.

Level 1 "READY" evacuations remain in effect for residents in the area, meaning they should be prepared for potential evacuation. The Olnes Pond Campground is closed to the public for use by fire crews.

Boreal spruce (C-2) is the primary driver of fire spread. Birch/aspen stands (D-2) are resisting spread under all but the driest conditions. Recent burn scars are limiting fire spread to creeping, but fire scars that are over a decade old are readily supporting fire spread.

Of the 13 fuel models, C-2 is best approximated by FM4, and D-2 is similar to FM8.

Outlook

Planned Actions
Fire growth has diminished significantly since July 6th due to periods of cool moist weather across the fire area. Fire behavior is expected to remain minimal unless an extended dry warm period longer than 6 days occurs. This moderated weather is aiding in the overall desired outcome to effectively suppress fire using available resources to protect life, property, and critical infrastructure.
Local residents are currently in "Ready" status. Suppression related impacts from heavy equipment are a concern for some landowners.
