Fire management has a successfully transitioned to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Type 3 organization.

The priority remains full suppression and containment of the fire. The restoration process starting with suppression repair to bring the forest back to a productive and vibrant resource is a component of this strategy.

A Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has been established by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest to assess post-fire impacts. The team is conducting a rapid assessment to identify immediate post-fire threats to life, property, water quality, and critical natural and cultural resources. The BAER team is evaluating the increased risks of flooding, debris flows, and erosion. The removal of fire suppression equipment is nearing completion. This includes mechanized equipment such as dozers, chippers and excavators. These large pieces of equipment are using local roads. Residence needs be alert of this traffic.

FIRE ACTIVITY:  Despite warmer and drier weather, the vegetation and ground fuels still aren't as dry as they were earlier in July. Fire activity remains very low, with smoldering well within the fire's perimeter.

FIRE WEATHER: A hot and dry airmass will bring a warming and drying trend to the Green Fire this weekend. Above normal temperatures, low daytime humidity, and poor overnight recoveries are forecast Friday through Sunday. Periodically breezy northerly winds are forecast Friday morning and again Friday night into Saturday morning.

EVACUATIONS: At 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office reduced the Evacuation WARNINGS for ALL zones. All Zones have now returned to a NORMAL status.

CLOSURES: Shasta-Trinity National Forest closure order for the Green Fire can be found at https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/shasta-trinity/alerts/green-fire-closure-order.

INITIAL SITUATION: The Green Fire started following widespread thunderstorms and lightning on the afternoon and evening of June 30, 2025. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest saw more than 3,100 lightning strikes between June 30 and July 2, resulting in several wildfires. (Wildfire information for other current incident on the Shasta-Trinity). Firefighters will continue monitoring the forest in the days ahead for holdover fires that may emerge from this week's storms.

AIR QUALITY: Fire activity for the Green Fire is continuing to decrease.  Areas close to the fire could see brief periods of smoke, but no long duration impacts are expected.

NO DRONE ZONE: Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can cause air operations to cease. When drones interfere with firefighting efforts, a wildfire has the potential to grow larger and cause more damage.  For more information on drones the public can visit the FAA's website at www.KnowBeforeYouFly.org "If you fly, we can't!"

Incident Description

Fuels Involved

Brush (2 feet), Hardwood Litter & Timber (Litter and Understory)

Narrative: The fire area has continuous fuels with variable fire history exceeding 50 years. This has resulted in heavy loading of brush and timber, creating conditions to produce fire behavior with high resistance to control. Primary growth occurred when energy release component (ERC) values were above the 80th percentile with higher resistance to control observed when ERCs were above the 85th percentile. Northern slopes at higher elevations have fir overstory with black oak, dogwood and bigleaf maple. Rocky areas have less continuous fuels, and there are chaparral areas including Mountain Mahogany, oak species, and California buckeye. Fuel model TU5 (165) has been used for fire behavior runs. The northern extent of the fire is adjacent to the October 2024 Shoe Fire where fuel loading is much lower and considered a fuel model TL1 (181) where fire behavior was minimal. The southwest portion of the fire has burned into an area with a history of prescribed fire where fuel model TL6 (186). The fire area received about 1/3 inch of rain July 25th which helped moisten fuels, however a modest drying occurred July 26th-31st. 30.

Significant Events

Narrative: Minimal fire behavior will include smoldering and creeping. Fire will continue to burn out some interior fine fuels. Smoke production will be minimal.

Outlook

Planned Actions
Continue suppression repair and backhaul of equipment and supplies no longer in use. Mop up and patrol of the Pit River Arm will continue as needed. On the western flank, resources will continue to mop up along the 35N02 Road system in Branch V to reinforce containment line. Suppression repair continues on the 35N02 road, Garden Ridge, and Curl Ridge.
Projected Incident Activity
12 hours: Minimal fire activity is expected.
24 hours: Various smokes will appear during the heat of the day, but fire activity will be confined to smoldering or low-intensity burning well within the interior of the fire perimeter.
48 hours: Any remaining fire activity will likely be limited to smoldering or low-intensity burning well within the interior.
72 hours: Other than the burning out of heavier fuel within the drainages, well interior of the control lines, minimal fire activity is expected.
Minimal fire activity is expectedafter the next 72 hours.
Remarks
Transition to an ICT4 organization will occur Saturday, 8/9/2025 at 0700.
Beginning Saturday 8/9 morning briefings will be held in-person at 0700 at the Shasta Lake RD office, 14225 Holiday Road, Redding, CA 96003.
Fenders Ferry road continues to be closed past McCloud Bridge Campground to Pitt River Bridge near PGE - Pitt 6 dam.
