A helicopter drops water next to a home

The Hope Fire started July 8, 2025 around 1:15PM. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. 

The fire is located 15 miles north of Kettle Falls. The fire was very active in the first two burn periods, driven by high winds, burning in timber, brush and grass. 

Evacuation orders are in effect. The Red Cross can provide support on an as needed basis.

Management of this incident transitioned from NW Complex Incident Management Team 8 to NE Washington Type 3 Incident Management Team to at 6:00 PM on July 24 2025.

A Road Closure Order was issued from the Colville National Forest on July 14, 2025, for

  • East Fork Crown Creek Road from Churchill Mines Road to Northport Flat Creek Road
  • Lael Road from Sheep Creek Road to Northport Flat Creek Road

Fuel moistures continue to gradually decrease. Live fuel moistures in the woody component are still high at elevations above 3000 feet and in wet drainages. 100 and 1000 hour fuels will take several days to contribute to fire spread, however that timeframe will be shorter on exposed ridges and in areas located within the thermal belt.

Heavy fuels continue to consume in areas that were burned out yesterday. Minimal fire activity in other areas.

Outlook

Planned Actions
Mop up and secure areas from yesterday's burn operations. Assess and if possible implement falling operations in the cedar patch on Division W to try to reduce impacts to Crown Creek Road. Continue to secure and mop up around values within the fire perimeter. Hold and mop up as needed to keep fire within existing control lines. Begin suppression repair where possible.

48 hours: Some pockets of unburned fuel may continue to consume.
72 hours: Humidities are expected to begin to increase, and should moderate any fire behavior.

Morning inversions will dissipate 0800-0900 pdt with
steady southwest winds developing by midday. Moderately
deep mixing heights will bring the potential for gusts of
15 to 20 mph throughout the afternoon. Winds will wane
after 1700 with evening inversions setting back in around
1900. Increasing stable environment on Tuesday will lead
warmer drier conditions with light winds.
