INITIAL SITUATION: Forest Service Firefighters along with firefighters from other agencies including the City of Highland and San Bernardino County responded to a reported wildland fire on Baseline Road at about 6:00 PM on September 5, 2024. Arriving engines reported several acres on fire, and immediately requested more resources, including multiple additional fixed wing and helicopters. CURRENT SITUATION: Damage Inspections Teams (DINS) have completed their inspections. In all, four structures were damaged, and one was destroyed. Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the California National Guard will support the state’s ongoing response to the Line Fire. Through its activation, authorized under the Line Fire State of Emergency, the California National Guard is deploying: Four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for water bucket dropping operationsTwo C-130 aircraft with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS)Four 20-person hand crews (80 soldiers). They will be assigned to the Line Fire on Thursday in support of CAL FIRE.One military police company to support the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control points in evacuated areas. EVACUATION NOTIFICATIONS: During a major disaster such as a wildfire, your Fire and Sheriff’s Dept. use a system known as the Telephone Emergency Notification System or TENS to send high-speed mass notifications by telephone and text messages. This system helps us get you critical updates, such as evacuation information, as quickly as possible.In an effort to quickly communicate information on impending dangers, the San Bernardino County Sheriff and Fire Departments send high-speed mass notifications via telephone and text messages. This system is known as the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS).The County uses a database of landline telephone numbers, which is updated every six months, to send emergency messages to landline phones only. By signing up, residents can also receive emergency text messages on their cell phones, add voice over internet phone numbers (V.O.I.P.), and manage their own account using a valid email address. Those without internet connections can sign up by calling 2-1-1 or (888) 435-7565ROAD CLOSURES: Plan ahead on State Highways - Visit Division of Traffic Operations - Road Information - California Highway Information ]SR-330 closed both directions from Highland Ave to Live Oak. Fire crews still active in the area. Caltrans crews started assessing damages and will continue those operations today as well. There is no ETA for reopening the route at this time.FOREST CLOSURE ORDERS: San Bernardino issued Forest Order NO. 05-12-00-24-10, creating a Forest Closure Area around the Line Fire. All National Forest lands, trails, and roads are closed to the public within that zone. Please know what these orders are reviewed frequently, will grow or shrink as needed based on the size and risks associated with the fire. DRONE SAFETY - KNOW WHERE YOU CAN FLY: Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can cause air operations to cease. When drones interfere with firefighting efforts, a wildfire has the potential to grow larger and cause more damage.
